Help my cousin come to Las Vegas with an online vote!

I just saw this from my uncle. My cousin Josh in the Philippines entered a modeling competition for Axe body spray. His submission has already landed him in the top 10 (Which is where he neds to stay to be considered for final judging), but seriously... His submission totally needs to take him to the top and he can be pushed out in these last few hours! He's already got over 200 votes and the deadline is actually tomorrow 8:59 AM, March 31 in the U.S (edit: time was extended since original post). That's what I get for lagging on checking my e-mail =X

So here's the voting process.

Video of Unifier - Incredible California Fire Performers

Unifier just released a new video reel, and I was reminded that they are one of the most exciting fire performance groups in California. Actually, scratch that. They are some of the most exciting performers I have ever seen, PERIOD. Not only are they HOT (as in gorgeous, sexy pyromaniacs), but they are innovative engineers and risk takers. Their shows incorporate an underlying silent narrative which is conveyed by letting their costumes, props, stages, actions and music tell the story.

I've seen beautiful women engage in battle with stilt-walking, fire-breathing demons. The intense fireballs escaping from the mouths of the nefarious creatures bounce off of the shields of these beautiful vixens and set their weapons ablaze. Four-legged monsters tower above gothic lolitas whose nightmares force them to deal with jumpropes that create intense infernos on every turn and revolution. Drummers mechanically attached to mannequins create beats in perfect unison with torches used as drumsticks... and yes... the mannequins breathe fire as well.

This short reel can't really convey the energy and excitement of seeing acrobatic warriors dueling with swords that shoot off sparks of magnesium in all directions complete with bullet-time sequences that are well-timed to the music. It is hard to forget the first time you see a blazing sword swipe across someone's face and release a burst of light and heat. Sensual dancers with fiery wings move about gracefully like beautifully twisted fairies. Riveting tangos keep desires burning and stoke flames of passion among onlookers.

We have booked Unifier for a few of our past events and I hope to see them more. Although they are based in San Diego, I hope people in Los Angeles will consider using them for their shows so I don't have to drive as far to see them perform next. They put on one hell of a show.

Chairlift - Evident Utensil Video (with amazing effects)

This video for Evident Utensil by the Brooklyn-based band Chairlift features incredible effects that you would expect to see as some sort of side effect of bad divx compression. However, they've managed to harness these artifact to create an entirely new type of visual experience. Directed by Ray Tintori. Anyone have any idea how they did this?

KITTEH CAM! I CAN HAZ VIEWERS?

Now that the Shiba Inu 6 have moved on to pursue bigger and better things, we bring you the next generation of video crack. Kittens.

THE NEW OVER

Psychedelic Space Disco

A lot of my friends love funky music like house or breaks. So do I, but I'm also a fan of the energy-driven spacey sounds of psytrance. Most of my groove loving friends won't go near psychedelic trance with a 10 foot pole. I mean, the house music scene is kind of derived from the disco days of bellbottoms and afros. That is a world very far removed from the world of aliens, hindu gods and alternate dimensions. For the uninitiated, these themes are as associated with the psy scene as vampires and black are associated with the goth scene... or crying and cutting is with the emo scene.

But wait. Can't hyperdimensional alien being get their funk and groove on too?

That was the idea behind this mix. Psychedelic Space Disco. Hope you enjoy the experiment.

Electro Funk and Dirty Bass

Earlier this year, I played a multiple-day event in a desert oasis in Mexico, so I collected the FUNKIEST, DIRTIEST tracks I could get my hands on for people to listen to on the way down. This is a departure from my traditional darker techy sounds and more uplifting progressive sounds. This is straight up booty-shakin' dance music!

Burn it or throw it on your MP3 player of choice or stream it at work in your headphones.

For all of you that love my dark, techier sound, wait for Robofunk Beta which will be released very soon. For every light mix, there must be a dark one... such is the balance of the universe...

I'm playing downtempo at Elysium Midsummer Festival!

I have something horrible to admit. I've never gone to Elysium. During the last couple years, I was either really overloaded with work or had another gig on the same weekend. In fact, the first year I sent my aunt and uncle down to check it out and my plans had changed last minute and they were left to fend for themselves! However, when my friends would come back, they would tell me stories about how awesome it was to have both bands and DJs, and I've seen some of the live performances from SoCal's top fire groups on YouTube that blew me away.

So this year, I am excited to finally be going to Elysium and I'll be playing downtempo during the day. Those of you who know me well or have known me throughout college know that I have a very deep love of downtempo and now I get to share that love with many of you. For you music heads, I'm lettting you know right now that I love stuff off of FatCat, Warp, Planet-Mu, etc... Expect to hear anything from Sigur Ros to Plaid... Prefuse 73 to Boards of Canada... Mum to Lamb... Bjork to Bluetech... I frequently attend IDM events in Los Angeles, listen to Morning Becomes Eclectic regularly, and generally just love to chill out.

Well, now you know what to expect from me. Hope to see you at Elysium!

The very last Caladan ever...

Caladan

Caladan one was THE party that made me who I am today. I was a raver in the 90s and I had only gone to one outdoor party (Electrosphere) before that, but Caladan was the first event I ever attended where I felt something truly spiritual. I can't explain it. There's no costumes, insane visuals, decorated stages, and it is all donation based. However, there have been marriage proposals, people flying in from around the country, some of the most well tuned sound I've ever heard, new party crews formed, lifelong friends met... It is oe of those annual magical events that just is.
